New Delhi is buzzing with anticipation for the Indian Premier League 2026, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is holding off on releasing the schedule. The primary hurdle? Upcoming assembly elections in several states. Officials are waiting for election dates to be announced to avoid any clashes between polling days and high-stakes IPL matches.
Beyond elections, venue finalization for key teams remains pending. BCCI has instructed Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to lock in their home grounds by the end of this week. For RCB, the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is the traditional base, recently cleared for IPL and international games, though subject to state government conditions.
RR faces more complexity. Administrative issues at the Rajasthan Cricket Association have cast doubts over Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The team has alternated with Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati in the past, but BCCI is prepared to shift RR to Pune’s MCA Stadium as a backup if needed.
RCB’s vice president, Rajesh Menon, recently met Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister to explore playing two matches at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Naya Raipur. This could diversify venues amid ongoing discussions.
BCCI’s strategy ensures seamless operations. Once venues are confirmed and election calendars are public, the IPL 2026 schedule will be unveiled, promising uninterrupted cricketing excitement for fans across India.
