In a significant crackdown on organized crime, the Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of Delhi Police has arrested two key suspects linked to the notorious Saddam Gauri gang in Dwarka district. The operation, conducted on January 11, led to the recovery of two country-made pistols and two live cartridges, dealing a major blow to illegal arms trafficking in the capital.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ravi alias Budhi alias Jalebi, aged 37, and Nishant, 21. Ravi, a resident of Om Vihar Phase-3 in Uttam Nagar, boasts an extensive criminal record with over 14 cases registered against him. Investigations reveal he was actively associated with the Saddam Gauri gang, engaging in extortion rackets targeting local drug peddlers and illegal liquor traders. Nishant, from JJ Colony on Hastsal Road, supplied the illegal weapons to Ravi.
Acting on a tip-off, a specialized AATS team laid a trap and apprehended Ravi while he was carrying a loaded country-made pistol. Intense interrogation uncovered the arms supplier, leading to Nishant’s swift arrest. From him, police seized another pistol and a live cartridge.
Delhi Police officials emphasized that this action aligns with ongoing directives from DCP Dwarka to prevent crime and dismantle illegal networks. The team, comprising Sub-Inspector Dhananjay, Head Constables Jayprakash, Rakesh Kumar, Ghan Shyam, and Constable Arvind, operated under the supervision of Inspector Kamlesh Kumar and ACP Operations Ravinder Ahlawat.
During questioning, Ravi confessed to joining the gang for quick money, planning extortion from underworld elements. An FIR under Arms Act sections 25/54/59 has been registered at Uttam Nagar police station (No. 25/26 dated January 11). Probe continues to unearth more gang members and their broader operations, underscoring Delhi Police’s commitment to curbing gang violence and arms proliferation.
