A 15-year-old’s birthday celebration turned into a nightmare in the Koriya district of Chhattisgarh when a trivial argument led to a brutal murder. The victim, Ritesh Singh, was allegedly killed by his friend, Vidyachandra Sahu, following a night of drinking and a series of disagreements. The incident, which took place near Ranai village on the night of January 4, 2026, was initially reported as a road accident, but a detailed police investigation has revealed a far more sinister plot. According to the police, the group had spent the evening at Jhumka Dam in Baikunthpur to celebrate Ritesh’s birthday, where they consumed alcohol before moving to another location in Patna for more drinks.
The tension escalated when Ritesh reportedly took Sahu’s mobile phone and called Sahu’s father to disclose their location. This act deeply angered Sahu, leading to a heated verbal exchange. In a fit of rage, Ritesh decided to walk back to his home alone. However, Sahu allegedly followed him in his vehicle and intentionally rammed into him from behind at high speed. The impact caused critical injuries to Ritesh, who later succumbed during treatment. While the other friends present at the scene initially fled the hospital after Ritesh was declared dead, the police managed to track them down and uncover the truth behind the ‘accident.’ The main accused, Vidyachandra Sahu, has been arrested and charged under various sections, including the SC/ST Act.
