In a thrilling start to their ICC Under-19 World Cup campaign, Afghanistan’s young cricketers delivered a masterclass performance, defeating South Africa by 28 runs in their opening Group B clash. Batting first after winning the toss, Afghanistan posted a challenging total of 225 for 9 in their 50 overs at Willowmoore Park, Benoni. Captain Nematullah Khalil top-scored with a gritty 50, providing the backbone for the innings. Defending the total, Afghanistan’s bowlers rose to the occasion magnificently. Left-arm spinner Zia Ur Rehman starred with figures of 3 for 27, dismantling the South African middle order. South Africa, chasing 226, started strongly but lost momentum, eventually being bowled out for 197 in 47.3 overs.
