Beijing, January 16 – Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova hailed the visa-free policy between Russia and China as a ‘permanent driving force’ for strengthening bilateral relations. Speaking at a regular press briefing on January 15, Zakharova responded to a query from Xinhua, emphasizing how the policy has revolutionized cross-border tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

Since its implementation, the visa-free agreement has sparked a steady surge in tourists crossing the Russia-China border. Numbers have climbed impressively, with both nations warmly welcoming visitors. Russia, in particular, boasts extensive hospitality infrastructure and is relentlessly upgrading its offerings. From pioneering new travel routes to bolstering related industries and erecting state-of-the-art facilities, Moscow is crafting an inviting environment for global travelers.

Zakharova highlighted the wealth of cultural and tourism assets in both countries. ‘Travel deepens mutual understanding of traditions and cultures,’ she said, adding that it fosters greater exchanges and solidifies longstanding friendships. Beyond official diplomacy, grassroots cultural interactions between Russians and Chinese have flourished, forming a vital pillar for the humanitarian foundation of their partnership.

This policy isn’t just about vacations—it’s a strategic bridge linking two global powers. As tensions rise elsewhere, the Russia-China axis grows ever tighter through such practical measures. Experts predict continued growth in tourism, potentially injecting billions into local economies and paving the way for deeper collaborations in trade, tech, and beyond. The visa-free era marks a new chapter in Eurasian connectivity.
