New Delhi marked a significant moment in bilateral relations as Sergio Gor officially took charge as the United States Ambassador to India on Monday. The ceremony at the American Embassy in the capital welcomed the new diplomat with great enthusiasm. Sharing his first-day experiences, Gor expressed profound gratitude for the warm reception from the dedicated embassy team.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Ambassador Gor wrote, ‘Namaste! Today marks my first day at the US Embassy in New Delhi. I feel honored to join this dedicated team and am eager to advance President Donald Trump’s priorities while deepening the US-India partnership. Under President Trump’s leadership, I am optimistic about the future of our two nations.’
Addressing the gathering during the welcome event, Gor highlighted upcoming developments in trade negotiations. He revealed that discussions on the ongoing trade deal would resume on Tuesday, January 13. ‘Many of you have asked for updates on the trade deal talks,’ he stated. ‘Both sides are actively engaged. In fact, the next round of trade discussions is scheduled for Tuesday. India, being the world’s largest democracy, makes finalizing this a complex task, but we are determined to get there. Trade is crucial, yet our collaboration extends to security, counter-terrorism, energy, technology, education, and health.’
Gor emphasized India’s unparalleled importance as a partner for the US. ‘No partner is more vital than India,’ he affirmed. ‘As ambassador, my goal is to execute a comprehensive agenda in the coming months and years, working as true strategic partners where each brings strength, respect, and leadership.’
Reflecting on personal connections at the highest levels, the ambassador noted the genuine friendship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump. ‘Having traveled the world with President Trump, I can attest that his bond with PM Modi is authentic. The US and India are linked not just by interests but by relationships at the highest levels. True friends can have differing views but always resolve them.’
This appointment signals a renewed commitment to fortifying one of the world’s most dynamic partnerships, promising advancements across multiple fronts amid global challenges.
