In a dramatic late-night operation, Patna police engaged in a fierce gunfight with notorious criminal Prahlad Kumar, leaving him wounded and under custody. The encounter unfolded around 2 AM in the densely populated Kankarbagh area, a hotspot for criminal activities in recent months.
According to police sources, Prahlad Kumar, who has multiple cases of robbery, extortion, and arms possession registered against him, was tipped off by local intelligence units. A special team led by DSP Rajesh Kumar laid a trap near a local dhaba where the suspect was reportedly hiding. When challenged, Kumar opened fire, prompting a swift retaliation from the officers.
Eyewitnesses described hearing multiple rounds of gunfire echoing through the narrow lanes. ‘It was chaos for about 10 minutes,’ said local resident Sunita Devi. ‘We locked our doors and prayed for the police.’
Kumar sustained bullet injuries in his legs and was immediately rushed to a nearby government hospital. Doctors confirmed his condition as stable but serious. Two country-made pistols and live ammunition were recovered from his possession, marking another blow to the local underworld network.
SP Patna City, Navin Chandra, addressed the media briefing, ‘This operation demonstrates our zero-tolerance policy towards criminals. Prahlad was involved in over 15 serious cases across Bihar and neighboring states. More arrests are expected as we unravel his syndicate.’
The incident has sent shockwaves through Patna’s criminal circles, with police hinting at larger operations in the coming days. Residents have praised the bravery of the force, calling it a much-needed respite from rising crime rates. As investigations continue, questions remain about Kumar’s accomplices who managed to escape during the melee.
