In a dramatic late-night operation, Rewari police engaged in a fierce shootout with two notorious criminals, leaving both injured and in custody. The encounter unfolded on the outskirts of Rewari, Haryana, around 11 PM when a police patrol spotted a suspicious vehicle speeding away from a checkpoint.
The suspects, identified as Rajesh Kumar and Manoj Singh, both carrying bounties of Rs 50,000 each for prior offenses including robbery and arms possession, refused to stop despite repeated warnings. As the chase intensified through narrow village roads, the duo opened fire on the pursuing officers, prompting a measured response from the police team.
Two rounds were exchanged before the criminals’ vehicle crashed into a roadside barrier. Both men sustained bullet injuries to their legs, ensuring minimal lethality while neutralizing the threat. Quick medical aid was provided on-site, and they were rushed to a nearby hospital under heavy security.
Preliminary investigations reveal the pair was planning a major heist in the industrial belt of Rewari. Recovered from their possession were two country-made pistols, live ammunition, and stolen cash worth over Rs 2 lakhs. Rewari SP Vikram Singh hailed the operation as a ‘major breakthrough’ in curbing organized crime in the district.
This incident marks the third successful encounter by Rewari police in the past six months, underscoring their zero-tolerance policy towards armed criminals. Local residents have praised the force for enhancing safety in rural areas plagued by gang activities. The injured duo will face charges under the Arms Act and attempt to murder a public servant once they recover.
