In a significant blow to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), star all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar will miss the opening matches of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 season. The Indian cricketer, known for her explosive batting and crafty bowling, has been ruled out due to an ongoing injury recovery.

RCB, who came agonizingly close to glory in the previous edition, were banking on Vastrakar’s experience to set the tone early. Her absence leaves a massive void in the middle order and the bowling attack. Fans and team management alike are disappointed, as her dual skills have been pivotal in crucial games.

The franchise confirmed the news on Wednesday, stating that Vastrakar is undergoing rehabilitation and will join the squad as soon as she is fully fit. ‘We fully support Pooja’s recovery and look forward to her return,’ an RCB spokesperson said.

Vastrakar’s track record in WPL speaks volumes. Last season, she claimed 10 wickets and scored brisk runs, helping RCB reach the final. Her unavailability could force tactical shifts, with youngsters like Kanika Ahuja and Shubha Satheesh potentially stepping up.

As WPL 2026 kicks off amid high anticipation, RCB faces an uphill battle without one of their key players. The team has depth, but replacing Vastrakar’s match-winning ability won’t be easy. Supporters hope for a swift recovery, eyeing another shot at the title.
