In a major crackdown on counterfeit operations, Delhi Police raided an illegal garment manufacturing unit in the capital’s outskirts late last night. The operation, spearheaded by the Crime Branch, uncovered a sprawling factory producing high-quality replicas of popular international brands.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by ACP Rajesh Kumar descended upon the facility in Outer Delhi’s industrial area. Inside, they found over 5,000 counterfeit garments worth an estimated ₹2 crore, including fake Levi’s jeans, Adidas sneakers, and Gucci shirts. Advanced sewing machines, printing equipment, and raw materials were also seized.
The unit was operating clandestinely for over two years, supplying fake apparel to street vendors and online sellers across North India. Three individuals, including the mastermind identified as Raju Sharma, were arrested on the spot. Preliminary investigations reveal the operation evaded taxes and trademark laws, causing significant losses to legitimate brands.
‘Delhi Police remains committed to curbing organized crime networks involved in counterfeiting,’ stated DCP North, emphasizing ongoing efforts to dismantle such syndicates. The raid is part of a broader initiative targeting fake goods markets ahead of the festive season.
Authorities suspect links to larger interstate networks, with further raids planned. This bust not only disrupts the supply chain but also protects consumers from substandard products. The arrested suspects will be produced in court tomorrow, facing charges under IPC sections for cheating and forgery.
