Toronto, January 7 – India’s Consulate General in Toronto has rolled out a groundbreaking initiative: the One Stop Centre for Women (OSCW). This fully operational hub is designed to support Indian women facing challenges in Canada, offering a lifeline for issues ranging from financial troubles to criminal matters.
Whether it’s a woman of Indian origin, a student, or an employee encountering problems, the center stands ready to assist. Acting Consul General Kapidhwaj Pratap Singh highlighted its role in bridging gaps between Canadian and Indian authorities, providing legal, financial, and emotional support.
“Many Indian women in Canada deal with domestic violence, dowry issues, exploitation, and more,” Singh told Radio Canada International. “This center ensures they get the help they need without cultural or social barriers holding them back.”
Launched on December 26, the OSCW has already seen over a dozen women reach out within days. It connects distressed women to timely counseling, psychosocial support, legal aid, and community resources, all while adhering to Canadian laws.
The initiative addresses key pain points like family disputes, abandonment, and abuse. Beyond permanent residents, it serves visitors, workers, and students alike. Singh emphasized the positive response and the center’s capacity to offer financial aid.
This move fosters a safer environment for Indian women in Canada, promoting inclusivity and swift intervention. As diaspora communities grow, such targeted support becomes invaluable, ensuring no woman faces crises alone.
