Doha is intensifying its diplomatic push to secure the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry and advisor to the Prime Minister, confirmed ongoing negotiations with key mediators to expedite the next stage.
In a weekly media briefing on January 6, Dr. Al Ansari highlighted the collaborative efforts involving Egypt, Turkey, and the United States. The focus remains on extending the truce, reopening the Rafah crossing, and delivering urgent humanitarian aid to those trapped in Gaza.
“Negotiations for phase two are actively underway,” he stated. While progress has been made on several points, critical hurdles persist. Dr. Al Ansari expressed optimism that persistent dialogue will overcome these obstacles.
Qatar has consistently advocated against weaponizing humanitarian aid in conflicts. “Reaching Gaza’s people is a moral imperative, not subject to conditions,” he emphasized.
The emirate also addressed recent developments in Venezuela, urging restraint, de-escalation, and dialogue for a peaceful resolution. Qatar supports all initiatives promoting stability there.
As a pivotal mediator, Qatar continues to champion diplomacy in Gaza and beyond, underscoring its role in global peace efforts.
