Harmanpreet Kaur has etched her name in the history books by becoming the most victorious captain in women’s T20 international cricket. She surpassed former Australian captain Meg Lanning’s long-standing record on Friday after steering India to an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram.
Kaur’s 77th win from 130 matches as captain in the shortest format of the game marks a significant personal and team achievement. Speaking after the match, Kaur attributed the success entirely to her team’s collective efforts. “I would like to give all credit to my team. They’ve been outstanding,” she stated. “It’s just a beginning for all of us. I know the next big thing is coming up (T20 World Cup), and hopefully, we’ll continue the same winning momentum.”
The captain views this record not as an individual accomplishment but as a stepping stone towards larger goals, including the upcoming T20 World Cup. She also highlighted the team’s strategic focus on adopting a more aggressive style in T20 cricket and praised the bowling attack for its crucial role in recent successes. “Credit goes to all our bowling lineup, the way they bowled in this series,” Kaur added. The series concludes with the next match scheduled for Sunday.
