Donald Trump’s standing in the latest Gallup poll shows his approval ratings at their lowest point during his second term, with a mere 36%. This figure places him below Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, who achieved a more favorable 44% approval. Trump’s current rating is just shy of his all-time low of 34% in January 2021, a period marked by significant national events. The poll, conducted among over 1,000 American adults between December 1st and 15th, highlighted Powell as the most popular figure surveyed. Marco Rubio was the only politician to also clear the 40% approval threshold. Other political leaders ranked include Vice President JD Vance (39%), Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth (36%), House Speaker Mike Johnson (35%), Attorney General Pam Bondi (36%), Senate GOP Leader John Thune (34%), and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (28%). The survey underscored the stark partisan divide regarding Trump’s leadership. Republicans overwhelmingly support his approach, while Independent voters show considerably less enthusiasm. Economic concerns may be contributing to these low approval numbers, as only 21% of respondents rated the current economy as excellent or good, with 31% calling it only fair. Trump has been a vocal critic of Fed Chair Powell, advocating for lower interest rates and calling for Powell’s resignation.
