Widespread protests are being organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) across the nation, demanding immediate access to their imprisoned leader, Imran Khan. The protests are being driven by intense speculation and unverified claims regarding Khan’s safety and alleged death within the confines of Adiala Jail. The PTI has formally submitted a list of six lawyers to the Adiala Jail administration, seeking permission for them to meet with Khan. Simultaneously, the party is urging its supporters throughout Pakistan to converge outside the jail as a show of solidarity and concern. PTI lawmakers are planning a major protest outside the Islamabad High Court, while Imran Khan’s sisters are organizing a separate demonstration at Adiala Jail itself. Security has been significantly bolstered around the prison. Sohail Afridi, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and a key PTI figure, has publicly stated his inability to meet Imran Khan after multiple attempts, highlighting a 28-day period without any permitted contact. The PTI has warned that continued denial of access could lead to nationwide demonstrations. The online sphere has been abuzz with alarming, yet unverified, rumors about Khan’s demise, exacerbated by alleged foreign ministry statements pointing fingers at Pakistan’s intelligence agencies.
