The Bihar Legislative Assembly has a new Leader of Opposition, with Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) officially taking on the role. This appointment comes at a time of significant political realignment, including the resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar shortly before the formation of the new legislative body.

Tejashwi Yadav’s selection as LoP marks his second tenure in the position. His party, the RJD, secured 25 seats as part of the Mahagathbandhan alliance, which collectively won 35 seats in the recent Bihar Assembly elections. This outcome follows a strong performance by the NDA, which secured a decisive majority.

The NDA coalition, led by Nitish Kumar, achieved a remarkable victory, capturing 202 seats in the 243-seat assembly. The BJP emerged as the largest party with 89 seats, followed closely by the JD(U) with 85 seats. The Mahagathbandhan’s electoral results, with the RJD as its largest constituent, set the stage for Yadav’s leadership in the opposition benches.
