In a significant humanitarian effort, 48 migrant workers from Jharkhand, who were trapped in Tunisia, have been successfully brought back to their home state. These individuals, from Bokaro, Hazaribagh, and Giridih, had been facing severe difficulties for three months, including non-payment of wages and inadequate food supplies. The intervention of social worker Sikandar Ali, alongside government initiatives and company coordination, was crucial in their safe return. Chief Minister Hemant Soren personally oversaw the situation, directing labor authorities to assist the stranded workers. Following their return, officials engaged with the migrants to assess their needs, with plans to enroll them and their families in government welfare schemes. The workers had been employed by PCL Prem Power Construction Limited and had endured a prolonged period without wages, creating a critical financial and logistical crisis. This repatriation reflects the Jharkhand government’s responsiveness and commitment to the welfare of its citizens abroad.
