Larissa Nery, a Brazilian model whose photograph was prominently featured in an alleged voter fraud case in Haryana, has reacted to the viral news with considerable surprise and amusement. The politician had cited her image as proof of irregularities in the electoral rolls.
Nery shared her bewilderment in a video, stating, “Guys, they’re using an old photo of mine. I look really young in the photo — I must be about 20, 18 years old. They are using my photo to do… I don’t know if it’s an election, something you have to vote in India. They’re portraying me as Indian to scam people, guys. Can you believe it? What kind of craziness are we living through?”
She explained that the photo used was from her late teens or early twenties. Nery detailed her experience of being contacted by a reporter for an interview regarding the controversy, noting that the journalist had tracked her down via Instagram after failing to reach her at her workplace. She found the situation to be a bizarre turn of events, particularly after a friend sent her the image.
The politician had alleged that Larissa’s photo was listed 22 times with various names such as Sweety, Seema, and Saraswati. However, media investigations identified one individual, Poonam, whose voter ID card displayed Larissa’s photograph. Poonam provided her official voter ID, confirming her identity and participation in the Haryana elections.
The opposition party, the BJP, has now criticized the Congress and Rahul Gandhi, accusing them of spreading misinformation and attempting to discredit the Election Commission of India through the circulation of a doctored voter list.
