Trump’s declaration on Truth Social indicated his intention to withhold federal funds, stating, “If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required.” He foresees “complete and total disaster” for the city under Mamdani’s governance.
Trump also voiced his belief that “New York City will be a Complete and Total Economic and Social Disaster should Mamdani win,” questioning the viability of communist principles in governing a major metropolis. In a surprising turn, he urged New Yorkers to cast their votes for former Governor Andrew Cuomo, despite their strained history, positioning Cuomo as a preferable choice to Mamdani.
