The Indian Air Force (IAF) is commencing a series of major operational exercises across the strategically important northeastern region of India. Official Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) have been issued, signaling a period of intensive military drills from November through January. These exercises are particularly significant given the Northeast’s proximity to China, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, indicating a focus on border preparedness and regional security.

The NOTAMs confirm that specific air corridors will be utilized for these drills on several key dates. Following initial operations on November 6 and 20, further training sessions are slated for December 4 and 18, concluding with planned exercises on January 1 and 15. The scope of these drills encompasses robust combat training, coordinated flight maneuvers, and logistical support exercises, all conducted from various air bases positioned within the Northeast. This region’s complex border situation necessitates continuous enhancement of air power and strategic response mechanisms.

A NOTAM serves to temporarily prohibit civilian aircraft from entering designated airspace, ensuring a secure environment for military aviation activities. This measure is vital for preventing potential accidents and facilitating unimpeded military operations, including the deployment of fighter jets, surveillance aircraft, and other aerial assets. The IAF’s proactive approach through these exercises demonstrates its commitment to maintaining a strong defense presence and operational readiness along India’s sensitive northeastern frontiers.
