A significant fire erupted at a scrap yard in Gola Basti, under the Sonari police station jurisdiction in East Singhbhum, late Monday night, causing extensive damage and considerable alarm. The dramatic flames caused immediate panic among residents. A fleet of six fire engines was deployed to combat the blaze, which took several hours of strenuous effort to bring under control.
Speculation among locals points to fireworks as a possible cause for the ignition, with the dry scrap material fueling the rapid spread. The fire’s intensity led to concerns of it reaching nearby homes, but the efficient response from the fire brigade contained the situation effectively. The economic impact is substantial, with damages estimated to exceed five lakh rupees.
Residents emphasized the critical role of timely intervention by the fire department, noting that a delay could have resulted in a much larger fire spreading into the densely populated area, posing a severe risk to life and property. Legislator Saryu Rai and his representative Neeraj Singh promptly visited the affected site to assess the damage and coordinate aid. The scrap yard proprietor recounted being informed of the fire shortly after midnight. The legislator’s swift action, prompted by local reports, was instrumental in mobilizing the fire services and preventing further escalation of the incident.
