At least 15 Pakistani soldiers lost their lives during intense fighting with Taliban forces along the disputed Afghanistan-Pakistan border late Saturday. Afghan officials reported that Taliban fighters also took control of three Pakistani border outposts and seized military equipment. This violent incident is seen as a direct consequence of alleged Pakistani airstrikes conducted in Kabul earlier in the week. Pakistani military sources claimed their troops engaged in a strong retaliatory operation after Taliban forces opened fire on their border posts. They stated that multiple Afghan positions and TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan) formations were targeted and destroyed. However, Afghan border authorities presented a different account, stating the clashes were a response to Pakistani aerial bombardments. Reports from Afghan provinces bordering Pakistan, including Kunar and Nangarhar, confirmed the fighting, with some sources claiming the capture of Pakistani posts. The Pakistani military has reportedly deployed substantial firepower, including artillery and tanks, in its counter-operations. This escalating conflict occurs amidst diplomatic complexities, including ongoing visits and political statements regarding regional security and militant sanctuaries.
