The DP World India Championship is poised to be a game-changer for golf in the nation, scheduled for October 16-19 at the historic Delhi Golf Club. This prestigious event will feature golf icon Rory McIlroy on his first visit to India, alongside other global stars such as Luke Donald, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland, and Shane Lowry. The championship boasts an impressive USD 4 million prize fund, the largest ever for a DP World Tour event held in India, and will showcase the skills of more than 20 Indian players. Delhi Golf Club President Raj Khosla shared his anticipation and insights into the preparations, calling it an ‘administrator’s nightmare’ but also a matter of national pride. He detailed the sport’s growth, moving beyond its ‘elite’ image to become more accessible, citing examples of players from humble backgrounds finding success. Khosla’s vision of success hinges on creating an experience that compels players like McIlroy to yearn for a return, solidifying India’s position on the international golf map.
