Three Injured in Coal Mine Blast in Manendragarh

In a concerning incident in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district, three coal mine workers, including two women, suffered injuries due to an explosion. The blast occurred at the South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) Chirmiri open-cast mine on Monday afternoon. The workers were reportedly preparing the site for a controlled blasting operation when the explosion took place. A group of workers was in the process of setting explosives on the coal bed when the blast happened abruptly. The impact of the explosion caused fragments to scatter, hitting workers and machinery. The injured were immediately taken to the SECL hospital in Kurasia for medical attention. They have been diagnosed with minor injuries and are recovering well. An investigation has been launched to determine the root cause, with initial suspicions leaning towards a technical fault that may have triggered the premature blast. Company officials are working to uncover whether the incident was due to faulty machinery, procedural shortcomings, or other human factors. The mine’s operations have been temporarily paused to ensure safety and conduct necessary assessments.
