An unexpected explosion at the Chirmiri open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh district has resulted in injuries to three workers, two of whom are women. The blast occurred on Monday afternoon as a team was in the process of setting up explosives for a planned detonation. While returning to a secure location, the group was caught off guard by the sudden eruption. The resulting debris hit workers and vehicles operating within the mine area. Emergency services responded swiftly, and the injured were transported to the SECL hospital in Kurasia. Their injuries are described as minor, and they are reported to be out of danger. An official inquiry is in progress to ascertain the exact cause, with preliminary theories pointing towards a potential technical malfunction. Safety procedures are being reviewed following the incident, and operations are temporarily halted.
