The Indian Navy is set to commission the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) ‘Androth’ at the Naval Dockyard. The commissioning event will be led by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command.
‘Androth’ is poised to join the Navy, symbolizing a step forward in its pursuit of enhanced capabilities and indigenous solutions. The warship, built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata, integrates over 80% indigenous content, reflecting India’s growing self-reliance in the maritime domain and its embrace of indigenous technological advancements.
The incorporation of ‘Androth’ will significantly strengthen the Navy’s Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) capabilities, especially in addressing threats in coastal waters. This induction underscores the Navy’s continuous focus on indigenization, innovation, and capacity building, and it recognizes the vital role of GRSE in fortifying India’s maritime security.
Recent additions such as Arnala, Nistar, Udaygiri, Nilgiri, and now Androth, mirror the Navy’s balanced development in the sphere of maritime operations. They exemplify self-reliance, incorporating domestic materials, design expertise, and innovation from Indian shipyards and industries.
