Criminal gangs in Ranchi are escalating their activities, targeting leaders with threats and extortion demands. Ramesh Singh, a BJP leader and builder, is the latest victim, receiving a threatening WhatsApp call from the Rahul Singh gang. The gang explicitly demanded extortion money, referencing Singh’s financial activities and work, with a warning of severe repercussions if the demands were not met. This incident follows a previous threat received on September 1, 2025, from Naxalites connected to the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI). Singh had reported the earlier incident to the police, but the investigation was still pending when the new threat was issued. Ramesh Singh, a resident of Ratu Road, is well-known for his involvement in social and religious events, including the recent organization of a lavish Durga Puja celebration. The extortion demand and threat were issued during the Durga Puja idol immersion ceremony, prompting a police investigation into the matter to ensure Singh’s safety and address the criminal activity.
