The release of Seedream 4.0 by ByteDance marks a direct challenge to Google’s Nano Banana (Gemini 2.5 Flash Image). Seedream 4.0, developed to create and edit images from text, is designed to compete with Google’s offering, which has gained prominence for its precision. Seedream 4.0 integrates text-to-image generation and image editing capabilities, adeptly addressing complex tasks such as interpreting prompts and maintaining detail integrity. The tool’s MoE framework allows for up to 4K resolution, producing 2K images in approximately 1.8 seconds. Though Nano Banana excels in creating realistic imagery, particularly in photorealistic or 3D styles, Seedream 4.0 is noted for its proficiency in handling multiple reference images, thus making it superior in specific image manipulation tasks. Concerns regarding the use of AI image tools include privacy, especially when considering Chinese-developed AI tools in Western countries.
