The former Delhi cricket captain, Mithun Manhas, is the leading contender to become the next president of the BCCI. This follows a meeting of influential figures in Indian cricket in New Delhi on Saturday, where they discussed and finalized names for key positions within the board ahead of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28. Manhas was among those who participated in discussions, alongside KSCA boss Raghuram Bhatt. While both remain in contention, Manhas is believed to be the preferred choice to succeed Roger Binny as president. Manhas enjoyed a successful domestic career, scoring 9,714 runs at an average of 45 in 157 first-class games, with 27 centuries. He also played in 130 List A games and 91 T20s for Delhi, and participated in the IPL with Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, and Pune Warriors. His post-playing career has involved cricket administration, including a role as director of cricket operations with the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
Raghuram Bhatt, an ex-India spinner, is also a candidate for a senior position. His term at the KSCA ends on September 30. He is unlikely to run in the upcoming KSCA elections. Sourav Ganguly, the former BCCI president and current representative of the Cricket Association of Bengal, may or may not have been present. Harbhajan Singh, the nominee for Punjab, did not attend the gathering. Kiran More, a former India wicketkeeper, is also being considered for a role within the BCCI. Alongside the selection of a new president, the board is also looking for a new IPL chairman, with Arun Dhumal leaving the position. The selection panel is set to undergo changes, with Pragyan Ojha replacing S. Sharath and RP Singh replacing Subroto Banerjee. The new selection committee will begin on September 28, with their first assignment being the upcoming West Indies home Test series.
