Some movies generate significant buzz, and when Anurag Kashyap is involved, the anticipation is even higher. The film ‘Nishaanchi’ has been a topic of discussion since it was announced. While the film mostly lives up to expectations, it also has its flaws. Let’s explore whether it’s worth seeing.
The story revolves around twin brothers, W and B, who look alike but have very different personalities. W is straightforward, while B is always getting into trouble. The first part of the movie focuses on understanding these characters and their conflicts. Then, Monika enters as their mother, Manjiri, and Kumud Mishra as Ambika Prasad. Ambika is the cause of the family’s problems, even being linked to their father’s death.
Ambika uses his power, and B becomes his right-hand man. The small town is filled with stories and secrets, always revealing something new. Rinku (Vedika Pinto) enters their lives, changing everything. The question is, will the brothers ever find the right path? To find out, you must see the film in theaters.
Anurag Kashyap is known for his frank and authentic style. ‘Nishaanchi’ has profanity, action, and love, but something feels missing. The first half of the film is a bit slow, taking time to set up each character. However, the second half changes the mood. The best part of the film is its dialogues, which are local and funny. For example, when B says to Ambika, ‘Do you want to play Mughal-e-Azam or Hum Aapke Hain Koun…?’ such jokes are entertaining. However, the film tries to tell too many things at once, which can feel overwhelming.
Aishwarya Thackeray has done a great job in his first film. His double role as W and B is impressive. While B’s aggressive character may be more popular, his portrayal of the straightforward W is more effective. Monika does a great job as a mother. Vedika’s role is good, but she doesn’t make a big impact. Zeeshan Ayyub and Kumud Mishra, experienced actors, leave their mark in supporting roles. Vineet Singh, though with less screen time, is, as always, excellent.
The cinematography is outstanding. Every scene is beautifully filmed. However, the film feels long in some places. Vineet Singh’s backstory and some songs seem drawn out. More could have been done in editing. There’s a surprise at the end. To find out what it is, you’ll have to watch the movie.
The film has many good things, such as its powerful dialogues that will make you laugh and think. The actors’ performances are great, and Anurag Kashyap’s unique style is clear, making it different from other films. However, the film also has some weaknesses. The story sometimes slows down, which can get boring. Some scenes seem unnecessary, and the film seems to try to show too much at once, making the story confusing.
Anurag Kashyap has returned to Bollywood, and ‘Nishaanchi’ is proof, but some flaws remain. Part 2 of the film is coming, and hopefully, the team will fix those issues. If you’re a fan of cinema and Anurag Kashyap’s world, watch this film. It’s not ‘Gangs of Wasseypur,’ nor does it need to be. It’s a film that will make you laugh, feel disappointed sometimes, but sometimes make you say – ‘Wow!’. We give this film 3 stars.
