The Bihar government has announced that Vikas Mitras will now be eligible for accident insurance benefits, mirroring those available to government employees. This announcement was made at a ceremony organized by the Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission in Patna, presided over by Janak Ram, Minister of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare.
The event focused on a corporate package that will provide Vikas Mitras with numerous financial and banking benefits. Attendees included the Secretary of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department, the Mission Director of the Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission, representatives from State Bank of India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB), along with regional and district welfare officials and Vikas Mitras.
Key features of the corporate package, presented via a PPT, include insurance, health benefits, group life insurance, accident coverage, and financial aid for the education and marriage of their children. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission and SBI and PNB was a major highlight of the ceremony.
Minister Janak Ram expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for this initiative, highlighting the government’s commitment to the development of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes families. He also acknowledged the critical role of Vikas Mitras in promoting government schemes.
A directive has been issued to organize camps in each block on September 27th to facilitate the enrollment of all Vikas Mitras under this package. The Mission Director expressed gratitude to all participants, including bank representatives and media personnel, and conveyed optimism about the initiative’s potential to empower the Scheduled Castes and Tribes community.
