Vijay, the boyfriend, hatched a plan and called his girlfriend, Lalita, to meet him near the canal at Budharpokhar village on August 18. He pressured her to marry him. When Lalita refused, Vijay became enraged and strangled her to death. He attempted to make it look like a suicide by throwing her body into the drain and fleeing the scene. The police arrested Vijay Hembram, the accused in the murder case. During interrogation, he confessed to the murder, stating that he killed her in anger after she refused to marry him, and disposed of her body in the drain to make it appear as though she had committed suicide.
