Palamu Police, responding to intelligence, engaged in a fierce encounter with Naxals in the Manatu area of Jharkhand. The operation targeted Shashikant Ganjhu, a TSPC commander with a 10 lakh rupee bounty. The police located Ganjhu at his home in Kadel village, where he was participating in the Karma festival. A gunfight erupted when the police attempted to apprehend him. Two police officers, Sunil Ram and Santan Mehta, were killed in the encounter. Another officer, Rohit Kumar, was injured and is being treated at Mediniray Medical College and Hospital. Both deceased officers were from Palamu district. Following the tragic event, the authorities have cordoned off the area and initiated a comprehensive search. This operation aligns with the broader objective of eliminating Naxal influence in Jharkhand, building upon the success in Bokaro district on April 21, 2025, where security forces neutralized eight Naxals, including a top commander with a one-crore-rupee bounty.
