In a bizarre incident from Bemetara, Chhattisgarh, an 81-year-old woman, Shail Sharma, has been compelled to prove she is alive after her daughter-in-law allegedly orchestrated a scheme involving a fraudulent death certificate. The woman sought help from the Bemetara Collector’s office, pleading to be recognized as alive. She believes that her family, driven by greed for land, created the false documentation to claim her late husband’s assets. The property in question is a plot of land in Maihar Road, Satna, MP, which was purchased by her husband. The daughter-in-law was responsible for overseeing this land until a recent transfer of ownership to herself and her daughter. The victim’s grandson and elder son subsequently raised objections to this transfer. An investigation by the SDM Court in Satna confirmed that Shail Sharma was officially declared dead in 1993, with the death certificate issued from the Maro police station in Bemetara. This shocking revelation highlights the depths to which familial relationships can deteriorate due to property disputes. Furthermore, the elderly woman recently completed an international trip. The authorities must now decide how to address this unusual situation and correct the wrongful declaration of death.
