Following a federal appeals court’s decision that challenged his tariff policies, former President Donald Trump has argued for the necessity of these tariffs, suggesting they are critical to safeguarding America. He stated that without them, the United States would be completely destroyed, and its military power would be decimated. Trump’s defense came after the appeals court ruled against his tariff strategy, citing a violation of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The case is now headed to the US Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case in the second half of October. The Trump administration is set to appeal the decision, and the Supreme Court will determine the legality of invoking the IEEPA for tariff implementation. The court battle also involves an earlier ruling by the US Court of International Trade, which originally invalidated the tariffs. Although the tariffs, affecting imports from several countries including India, will remain in effect until October 14, the situation is subject to change based on the Supreme Court’s review.
