Kia is broadening its scope in the Indian market by focusing on the mass-market EV sector, following the introduction of premium EV models such as the EV6 and EV9. The forthcoming Syros EV has been observed undergoing testing in India. A car enthusiast spotted the EV version of the Syros on its way to a charging station in Kochi.
The exterior design of the Kia Syros EV closely resembles the ICE-powered Syros. The test vehicle was camouflaged at the front, rear, and window line. Elements like the pillars, ORVMs, and roof rails appear similar to those found on the ICE Syros. A shark fin antenna was also present.
The new Syros EV is anticipated to feature specific EV components, such as a closed grille and a charging port slot. A test model observed earlier in South Korea showed the charging port located on the left side. Apart from these changes, the vehicle seemed identical to the regular Kia Syros.
There might be minor changes in the front and rear detailing, while the side profile is expected to remain largely unchanged, possibly with EV-specific badging. The test vehicle seen in Korea had the same alloy wheels as the ICE Syros. The only differences noted were the green calipers and EV-specific badging.
Kia hasn’t confirmed the specifications yet. However, it is expected that the Syros EV may utilize battery packs from the Hyundai Inster EV, which uses a 42-kWh or 49-kWh battery pack with nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) chemistry. The range is 370 km with the larger battery pack, and a 10% to 80% charge can be achieved in about 30 minutes. Similar specifications are likely for the Syros EV.
The Kia Syros EV will compete with the Tata Punch EV and Windsor EV. Several variants could also rival the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 400 EV, and the upcoming Fronx EV. The Syros EV could potentially have a starting price around Rs 14 lakh, with top variants reaching close to Rs 20 lakh.
