The recent bridge collapse in Gumla, Jharkhand, highlights concerns about the resilience of the state’s infrastructure in the face of heavy rainfall. The Kons River bridge failure, which has cut off 12 villages, is not an isolated incident. A similar event occurred in June in the Khunti district, where a bridge on the Torpa-Simdega road partially collapsed due to intense rain. In that instance, a truck narrowly avoided falling into the river. These events have raised questions about the quality of construction and maintenance of bridges and roads in Jharkhand, particularly as the rainy season continues.
