In a move of diplomatic significance, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, has arrived in Bangladesh for a two-day visit. This visit is viewed as particularly important given the impending general elections in Bangladesh. Dar has been meeting with key opposition figures, including those from the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the NCP. These meetings suggest Pakistan’s interest in shaping the political dynamics within Bangladesh. A meeting held at the Pakistan High Commission involved BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam and a large delegation. Discussions addressed issues concerning the relationship between the two nations. Dar is also set to meet with former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia during the visit. This series of meetings highlights Pakistan’s efforts to cultivate influence within the country’s political sphere. Dar was greeted by Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary, Asad Alam Siam, upon his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
