Raipur, August 11, 2025/ In compliance with the orders of the Food Department, physical verification of the savings stock of 13,779 fair price shops operating in all districts of the state was conducted as of March 31, 2024. After this verification, a shortage of 7,891.73 tonnes of rice was found in 894 shops. Action has been taken by the department against the shops in which a shortage was found in the savings stock, under which the allocation of 101 shops was suspended, the allocation of 72 shops was cancelled, FIRs were registered against the operators of 19 shops and RRCs were issued for recovery against 194 shops.
The Food Department has clarified that in order to ensure transparency and accountability in the public distribution system, such inspections and verification will continue regularly.
