The movie ‘Singh Is Kinng’ is a Punjabi thali of entertainment. The film features a fallout, leaving the Singh without the King, so to speak.
‘Singh is Kinng’ is very entertaining. Akshay Kumar is a revelation as Happy Singh, leaving his village in Punjab for Australia to find a missing colleague. He is both strong and vulnerable. He is funny and tragic. He is Chaplin and Jim Carrey rolled into one.
Sonu Sood as Lucky Singh must stay inert for half the film as he goes into a coma and is replaced by Happy Singh. The film’s plot and characters are a rush of caricatures. Anees Bazmi retains his earlier hit Welcome but styles one of the most disarming comedies.
The plot includes action and adventure. Akshay Kumar adapts his comic stance and swims through humor to emerge with one of his best performances. ‘Singh Is Kinng’ is a showcase for Akshay’s virtuosity. Akshay’s performance is punctuated by moments of subtlety. Director Anees Bazmi treats the audience special. The narration is a patchwork. Kirron Kher offers comfort. Certain portions of the film are poorly edited. The movie is a contagious entertainer.
