Government Unveils Scheme for Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims

To address the high incidence of road accidents and ensure timely medical care for the injured, the government has introduced a new scheme. The ‘Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme 2025’ provides for cashless medical treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh for individuals involved in accidents involving motor vehicles. This facility is accessible at designated government hospitals across the country for seven days following the accident. The scheme is designed to facilitate immediate treatment and improve survival rates. While not part of the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, the scheme will be managed through the National Health Authority (NHA) IT platform, ensuring an efficient, online, and paperless process. The government aims to provide financial protection and timely medical aid during emergency situations. If the vehicle involved in the accident is insured, the insurance company will cover the treatment costs. For uninsured vehicles, the central government will provide financial support, with a budget of ₹272 crore earmarked for the fiscal year 2025-26.
