The year 1998 saw a significant achievement for Ajay Devgn as his film ‘Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha’ outperformed the releases of Sunny and Bobby Deol. This romantic comedy, released on July 24th, earned a remarkable 38 crores globally, securing its position as the second-highest-grossing film of the year. With a budget of 7 crores, the film’s success overshadowed the performance of Bobby Deol’s ‘Soldier,’ which, despite being a hit, trailed behind ‘Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha’ in terms of earnings. Furthermore, Bobby Deol’s other film, ‘Kareeb’, released in the same year, did not fare well at the box office. Sunny Deol also had two releases, ‘Zor’ and ‘Salaakhen,’ with ‘Salaakhen’ being a hit, but still behind Devgn’s movie. This marked a notable triumph for Devgn in a year dominated by Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’.
