Microsoft has introduced Copilot Mode in its Edge browser, a feature designed to enhance the user’s browsing experience through artificial intelligence. This new mode promises to streamline and optimize web navigation. It transforms search and browsing activities into topic-centric queries.

Copilot Mode gathers data from all open tabs, presenting comparison options in a consolidated view, eliminating the need for constant tab switching. The browser supports voice commands, allowing users to navigate without typing. It only accesses browsing history, passwords, and user data with explicit permission. Users receive visual notifications to indicate when Copilot is actively engaged.

This mode provides a unified interface for search, chat, and browsing, along with the ability to compare content across all open tabs, facilitating voice navigation, smart recommendations, and automation of tasks like bookings. Copilot Mode is currently offered free of charge to Windows and Mac users, though access is limited. The feature can be disabled through the Edge browser settings.

Microsoft’s latest move reflects a broader trend of AI-driven innovation in the browser and search space, with competitors such as Perplexity AI and OpenAI also developing AI-enhanced tools. Google has also launched its AI Mode.
