Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now officially become the second-longest-serving Prime Minister of India, serving consecutively. He has spent 4,078 days in office, a duration that places him ahead of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and second only to Jawaharlal Nehru, the nation’s first Prime Minister.

This period in office also sees Prime Minister Modi equaling Nehru’s record for winning three successive Lok Sabha elections, achieving this in 2014, 2019, and most recently in 2024. A BJP spokesperson emphasized the narrative of progress during Modi’s administration, contrasting it with earlier periods described as arbitrary. The spokesperson also addressed a recent remark by a Jharkhand Minister, criticizing it as disrespectful and revealing of a certain political disposition.

As a result of this extended tenure, Prime Minister Modi is now recognized as the longest-serving Prime Minister not affiliated with the Congress party. He is also the first such leader to have completed two full terms. This contrasts with the political career of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, another BJP Prime Minister, who, though elected three times, did not serve a full second term.
