Chhattisgarh Electricity Price Hike Triggers Political Clash

The decision to increase electricity prices in Chhattisgarh has sparked a political confrontation. Farmers will face an increase of 50 paise per unit, yet the government is providing free electricity up to 3000 units for consumers using up to 3 HP, with the government funding the cost. The Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (CSERC) has approved an average 1.89% increase in electricity rates for the fiscal year 2025-26. The Congress is opposing the move, claiming it goes against the interests of the people and saying that it puts an added burden on the poor. The situation has become a major talking point in the political sphere, with the administration claiming the price hike is controlled and for the common good. Conversely, the opposition contends that it is an additional financial strain on the public.
