Durg’s Indira Market Devastated by Fire: Investigation Underway

A major fire at Indira Market on Station Road in Durg on Saturday morning caused significant damage, particularly to the Khatri Electronics store and its warehouse. The fire quickly spread, reaching the second floor of the building. Firefighters, aided by the continuous rain, worked to contain the fire. According to the fire department, the situation is now under control, and the fire is nearly extinguished. The blaze, which started around 11:30 AM, resulted in the loss of electronic goods valued in lakhs of rupees. Damage assessment is currently in progress. Local sources indicated that the presence of electrical wires and other flammable materials contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. The preliminary cause of the fire is believed to be a short circuit. This is the second major fire in the area within the last three days; previously, a leather shop was affected. Political leaders have expressed concern over the recent incidents, questioning the actions of the administration and the electricity department. Former Congress MLA Arun Vora called for increased vigilance and a probe into technical issues. BJP MLA Gajendra Yadav noted that the storage of flammable materials like plastic and POP pipes in shops can exacerbate fire spread. There have been no reports of injuries. The authorities have begun an investigation into the incident and are compiling a detailed report on the cause of the fire.
