Prime Minister Narendra Modi was warmly received in Accra, Ghana, by President John Dramani Mahama, with a formal Guard of Honour and a 21-gun salute. This visit is a landmark event, being the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister in over thirty years. Discussions between the two leaders are a major focus of the trip. This visit is part of a larger tour to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia from July 2 to July 9, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs. PM Modi emphasized the intent to deepen existing relationships and create new opportunities for collaboration, including areas like investment, energy, health, security, capacity building, and development partnerships. He also expressed his anticipation of speaking to the Parliament of Ghana. Members of the Indian diaspora showed great excitement, with a large gathering anticipating PM Modi’s arrival at his hotel.
