Odisha on Alert: More Heavy Rain Expected as New Low-Pressure Area Emerges

Odisha is preparing for another spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, over the next five days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the low-pressure area over north Odisha and adjacent areas has weakened. A new upper-air cyclonic circulation is expected to develop over the north Bay of Bengal, close to the coasts of Bangladesh and West Bengal, around June 29. This could lead to another low-pressure area forming within 24 hours, which would increase the intensity of rainfall from June 30. The IMD has issued yellow warnings for districts including Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, and Mayurbhanj, indicating a high chance of heavy rain. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are also forecasted for several other districts. The advisory includes orange and yellow warnings for specific areas, signifying the probability of very heavy rainfall in the upcoming days.
