Tragedy struck in Santa Catarina, Brazil, as a hot-air balloon burst into flames and crashed, resulting in the deaths of eight people. The accident unfolded in Praia Grande, a region renowned for its hot-air balloon rides over stunning canyon vistas. The fire erupted mid-air, leading to the balloon’s descent, which took place shortly after 8 am local time. Of the 21 individuals onboard, 13 managed to survive and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Rescue teams, including firefighters and emergency personnel, responded promptly to the scene. The circumstances surrounding the crash are being investigated by authorities, with Governor Jorginho Mello acknowledging the event as a devastating loss. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva extended his condolences and pledged federal and state support for the rescue operations and the affected families.
