The Air India flight disaster in Ahmedabad resulted in the deaths of 241 people, including passengers and crew. The flight, AI-171, bound for London, had 230 passengers and 12 crew members on board. It took off at 1:17 PM but crashed shortly after into the BJ Medical College and Hospital. Out of the 242 people on board, only one person survived the crash. The survivor, Ramesh Vishwas Kumar, and other injured individuals are receiving treatment at Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad.

Ramesh Vishwas Kumar, the sole survivor, is a British citizen of Daman and Diu origin. He is currently admitted in a restricted room in Ward C7 of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. He sustained injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet. He mentioned that there was a loud noise and the plane crashed about 30 seconds after takeoff.

He was in India visiting his family and was returning to the UK with his brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh. He has been living in London for the past 20 years with his family.

He described the scene after the crash, finding bodies all around him. He was then helped into an ambulance and taken to the hospital. The Gujarat Police Crime Branch is interrogating him, and officials from the British Consulate also visited. The Deputy Collector of Daman and Diu met with Ramesh, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met with him on Friday.
